20: Surfer’s on steroids!

23.4.2012 – 23.4.2012 sunny 34 °C

Second day in Vegas saw us spend most of the day trudging down the strip to check out more hotels. We decided at brekky this morning (pancakes on the deck at Planet Hollywood) that we would stay another night in Vegas so we were on the hunt for a hotel with a decent pool or a decent price! (Our hotel was over 250 a night for the extra night so we were keen to find some cheaper digs).

First stop was into Planet Hollywood, my impression was ‘another casino’ so after availing ourselves of the free wifi we continued down the strip to MGM for a squiz. Before we arrived at MGM, we found a last minute ticket seller for Vegas shows and bought ourselves tickets to see Le Reve (water based Cirque style show) at Wynn so we had therefore ticked another box for Vegas; a show!

MGM was a pretty nice stop (old style 1920s Hollywood type building) but my gosh it’s a big place!!!! We tried hard to get lost (and checked out the pool deck) before deciding that we would go the cheap option and stay across the road at Excalibre. By now, the temp was heading up over 35 deg and we were pretty much over walking around so we made a call to head back to Paris, dump our stuff and plan to go up the strip to the outlet centre to buy some more shorts and stuff.

Wynn hotel is on the way so we detoured in to Wynn to collect our tickets for tonight’s performance before re-boarding the bus to the outlets. The shopping expedition was good, in that I got a couple of handbags cheap, but poor in the fact that its just too damn hot to be wandering around an outdoor shopping mall!

I chose to use some of my new purchases (two new shirts, a pair of shorts and two handbags) for my evening out at Le Reve so after getting dressed we headed back up the strip to Wynn for a bite to eat and the show.

We finished dinner with a good hour to spare so we decided to invest a couple of bucks into the pokies to see how we would go. We decided to invest 10 dollars each into this 1 pokie with a top dollar value of 12mil.. good return we thought! Anyway, first spin was D’s and he came up with zippo. My spin was next and the machine spun us up $261!!!!!! Needless, to say we immediately cashed the machine and split the winnings between the three of us!!! We had 21 dollars left over from our split so we re-invested that money with no luck.. But still how often do you pull 200+ dollars out of a poker machine???

Anyway back to the reason why we came to Wynn…. Le Reve is probably one of the best shows I’ve ever seen (and if you are ever in Vegas I highly recommend seeing it). It is a show that has the audience sitting around the stage. The stage is one big swimming pool with platforms that raise up for the performers. It is an acrobatic/ synchronised swimming/ ball room dancing show that is based on a love theme. There was people dropping out of the ceiling on strings, splashing galore, water falls from the roof, flames… you name it and this show had it.. Amazing and so worth the 100 dollars we spent to see the show.

Day 2 and we are way up in Vegas!!

  1. Lovely that you enjoyed the recommendation to go down from tahoe into vegas. Carol’s sister lived in Nth Tahoe and would agree with your comments about the Nevada side. I loved your comments on Oregon and will put that high into the list for us. Carol and I stayed at Caesars Palace in The Forum Tower and that cost us $161 per night. It had a great pool. Carol agrees with your summation of Death Valley. One place you missed that I should have mentioned is outside Reno and is Virginia City. Great old mining town!

Love the blogg. Give our best to M&D.

  2. Glad you saw a great show in Vegas, a highlight for us too, we saw Cirge du Soleil’s Beatles ‘Love’ show and it was fabulous. Cirque du Soleil’s never fail to disappoint it seems!

  3. Sounds like a great day/night except for the heat! Great win on the pokies! I would have cashed in as well!

  4. The fact that you had a win on the pokies and your good review of the show has got me even more excited about our trip to Vegas.
